Seminar Framework

One major problem faced by immigrants and their descendants when entering the arts in their host countries has been the marginalisation of their artistic works. This problem did not start with migration. It can be traced back to the unequal structures governing global artistic fields since the 19 ^th century at the latest. Even today, it is much easier for North-Western artists to gain international recognition than for other artists who have to move to one of the Western artistic metropolises, such as New York, Paris or Amsterdam, in order to attract wider interest in their works.

V Międzynarodowa Interdyscyplinarna Konferencja Polonijna pt.:"Język polski jako nośnik tożsamości", Poznań (26-27 listopada 2015)

Celem konferencji jest ukazanie roli języka polskiego jako nośnika tożsamości tak indywidualnej, jak zbiorowej, wśród Polaków oraz osób pochodzenia polskiego żyjących za zachodnimi i wschodnimi granicami Polski po roku 1945. Ze względu na potencjalnie szeroki zakres przedmiotowy tematu organizatorzy pragną, by wystąpienia uczestników skoncentrowały się wokół zagadnień związanych z instytucjonalnym wymiarem funkcjonowania polszczyzny poza granicami kraju, w tym przede wszystkim (choć nie tylko) na Wschodzie. W szczególności chodzi o działalność szkół i klas polskojęzycznych (w tym wykorzystywane w tych placówkach programy nauczania), organizacji polskich i polonijnych, mediów polskojęzycznych, duszpasterstwa polskiego, a także polityki oświatowej i migracyjnej państw, na terenie których istnieją skupiska polskojęzycznej ludności.

IV Ogólnopolska Konferencja Komitetu Badań nad Migracjami PAN "Migracje w XXI wieku – wybór, konieczność czy przymus?, Łagów k/Świebodzina (14-15 października 2015 r.)

Konferencje poświęcone migracjom organizowane są przez Komitet Badań nad Migracjami PAN od 2011 roku. Planowane przedsięwzięcie ma być już czwartym spotkaniem migrantologów tj. przedstawicieli różnych dyscyplin naukowych, w tym między innymi demografów, etnografów, antropologów, socjologów, politologów, których łączy wspólny obszar zainteresowań, którym są procesy migracyjne. Podczas dotychczas zorganizowanych konferencji podejmowano ważne dla tej problematyki kwestie, dotyczące zarówno konstruowania ogólniejszych teorii, prezentujące najnowsze wyniki badań, określające kierunki rozwoju badań w przyszłości, nowe propozycje metodologiczne i warsztatowe. Formułowano także dyrektywy, które mogą mieć praktyczne znaczenie dla działań wszelkich instytucji i organizacji zajmujących się migracjami. Debatowano o niezwykle ważnych dla rozwoju społecznego procesach demograficznych, ekonomicznych, społecznych i kulturowych konsekwencjach migracji zagranicznych oraz migracji powrotnych, skutkach wymiany kulturowo- społecznej, specyfice migracji poakcesyjnych i wielu innych kwestiach. Uczestnicy dotychczasowych konferencji odnosili również problematykę badań migracyjnych w Polsce do europejskich i światowych trendów w badaniach migracyjnych, co pozwalało uzyskać odpowiednią perspektywę do dyskusji o przyszłości i prognozowania w kontekście opracowania polityki migracyjnej Polski. 

International Conference "Children and young people on the move: towards a more precise definition of their best interests" (Portorož, Slovenia, 19-20 November 2015)

The Conference brings together the research community and professionals to discuss the ‘best interests’ concept by reference to unaccompanied migrant children and youth. The aim of the Conference is to assess past developments, analyse current situations and explore issues concerning the best interests of unaccompanied migrant children and youth across jurisdictions. This will be done from a variety of perspectives, with attention being paid to social, cultural, legal, health, housing and other relevant aspects.

The goal of the conference is to analyse and to explore causes, problems, difficulties, opportunities, prospects, achievements and outcomes for female immigrants and female labour migrants in host countries. We welcome individual papers from different disciplines doing cultural, cross-cultural and multi-cultural research relating to the migration of women and gender issues (migration studies, economy, psychology, medicine, management, sociology, anthropology, gender studies etc.).

Muzeum Warszawy zaprasza do wzięcia udziału w konferencji „Skąd się wzięli warszawiacy. Konsekwencje społeczne, ekonomiczne i kulturowe migracji”, która odbędzie się w dniach 3-4 grudnia 2015 r. w Muzeum Warszawskiej Pragi. Celem konferencji jest interdyscyplinarne ujęcie problemu migracji i pochodzenia mieszkańców Warszawy w szerokiej perspektywie chronologicznej, od momentu założenia miasta do czasów współczesnych oraz konsekwencji społecznych, ekonomicznych i kulturowych tego zjawiska. Chcielibyśmy zająć się problematyką integrowania się migrantów i kształtowania się społeczności lokalnych.

POLISH AMERICAN HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION (PAHA), 73rd Annual Meeting: “Global Migrations: Empires, Nations, and Neighbors”, Atlanta (January 2016)

PAHA's 73rd Annual Meeting will be held on January 7-10, 2016 in Atlanta as part of the 130th American Historical Association's Annual Conference. The theme for the 2016 AHA conference is “Global Migrations: Empires, Nations, and Neighbors.” It provides an excellent opportunity for the Polish American Historical Association to showcase research carried out by its members, as well as to present it in a comparative perspective. Therefore we invite scholars who work on the Polish American experience as well as those who deal either with migration, ethnic, or regional studies and would like to present their findings within the forum presented by the PAHA. We invite session proposals that foster international, comparative perspectives which include the Polish American experience, as well as individual papers dealing with the above mentioned themes.

Rethinking integration: New perspectives on adaptation and settlement in an era of superdiversity, Birmingham, UK (2nd July 2015)

IRiS and SAST Conference, Birmingham 2 July 2015 The Institute for Research into Superdiversity (IRiS) at the University of Birmingham, together with the project Social Anchoring in Superdiverse Transnational Social Spaces (SAST) is organising a one-day interdisciplinary conference which will focus upon theories on and research into adaptation and integration in an era of superdiversity. The conference will allow for the exchange of ideas and formulation of future research agendas to inform academics, practitioners and policy makers which can enable the facilitation of processes of adaptation and integration. The conference will feature invited plenaries and panels on topics related to the processes of adaptation and integration in emerging superdiverse societies.

International Symposium "Employment and Social Inclusion in Europe: Ways Forward for the Young Jobless Generation", Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre, Belgium (24 March 2015)

According to the European Commission, unemployment reached 24.6 million people in August 2014, out of which 5 million are aged 15 and 24. Millions of youngsters across Europe are struggling to find a job or to further their education, facing a world from which they increasingly feel disconnected with. The economic recession has forced many to accept unpaid internships or become long-term unemployed – which leads to a lack of confidence, social exclusion, poorer health, depression and even suicide.
